Magic for the Mages is determined by their specific Arcanum (previously called Towers of Influence so still essentially the same thing ) Each mage is able to use one Arcanum only, and falls under the other rules already in place for the World of Darkness. So without further Ado:
Death
Mages under this Arcanum have control over the metaphysical concept of Death itself, contained under these mages purview; Darkness (ability to bend Shadows and darkness to their will). Weaken the vitality out of other magics or living beings. The use and creation of Ectoplasm. The ability to manipulate Ghosts, and the undead. The strongest mages have even been said to be able to travel to and from the underworld and steal and handle the souls of the living.
Forces
Mages who study and learn the Arcanum of Forces are formidable Mages who quite literally can bend and manipulate the laws of physics. The ability to manipulate and create chemical reactions (with the required materials of course) including combustion. Control and manipulation of light, electricity, sound, and weather. The strongest of these Mages has even been said to be able to create, manipulate, and control gravity and nuclear radiation.
Life
Mages under the Life Arcanum have the power of life and creation in their hands. These mages can bend their control over other lifeforms, from microbes to human beings. Using their sheer will they can control diseases, heal, or reverse the effects of healing. Mages under this Arcanum have also been known to use their magic to control and accelerate Evolution or even to Physically transform the looks of lifeforms through metamorphosis. Legends speak of a Mage that was able to create brand new kinds of life the like of mythical creatures.
Matter
Matter Mages have much under their purview: elemental earth, air, water; stone, metals, plastics, ceramics and other lifeless substances. From learning what a substance is or changing qualities of it(conductivity, combustibility, durability), to Alchemy, Changing one substance into another. The Masters of this Arcanum have been said to be able to create Matter out of nothing.
Mind
Mages who study and learn under the Mind Arcanum have power over the powers of the mind, both complex minds and even simple minds of non-human entities. The ability to communicate, verbally or non verbally, discern emotional states, and empathic abilities all come under this Arcanum. Causing and controlling hallucinations, dreams, ESP, and even insanity also come under their purview. Psychic projections and mental assaults have also been taught to many mages. Masters of this Arcanum have been said to become Social, Psychic and Mental Masters of themselves and others.
Prime
Prime Mages are the Mages who can control and bend magic itself to their will. Prime mages have studied long and hard to learn the intricacies of Magic and how it works in the world. They can create or even dispel Hallows(magical hotspots), or even create Magical "Dead Zones" by dispelling all magic from an area. Prime mages can also create illusions or enchant objects with magical qualities. Prime Mages after much studying have learned to use magic itself as a weapon, shield, or even to undo other mages spells. It has been said that Masters have books of magic, containing spells and magical abilities of all Arcanum.
Space
Mages under this Arcanum can control and bend the three dimensions of space. Scrying(the individual is able to "see" images or gain information about a specific person, place, or object), and spatial senses are the most simple of these spells. Co-Location(being in multiple locations at once) is also possible though acting in those locations is not. Creating wards and spells of protections around spaces is also in their purview. Perhaps the most powerful thing these mages have been able to do is create portals, and hide things within space using these portals, consisting of one or multiple dimensions. Masters have been said to create dimensions out of nothing.
Spirit
Spirit Mages have power over the Spiritual world and spirits in general. Using their magic they have the ability to communicate with spirits, strengthen or weaken the barrier between the physical and spiritual worlds. Mages are also able to call on spirits or even exorcise spirits from the physical realm. Binding and creating spirit familiars for themselves and other mages are also possible. Masters have been said to be able to travel back and forth been the spiritual and physical realms and even to be able to give a physical form to a spirit.
Time
Mages under this Arcanum control the fourth dimension of Time. Clairvoyance of the pat, divination of the future, and control over the passage of time. The ability to create time warps and eddies in the time-stream around objects or lifeforms also falls under their purview. As mages become more powerful they can even control the speed at which time itself flows, accelerating or decelerating time. Masters it has been said can even perform spells of time travel.
Fate
Fate is the control of Luck, chance, and destinies. The ability to create and manipulate these purviews. Whether on an object, themselves or even another life form the ability to bestow these attributes. Stronger mages can create magically biding oaths and even bring about curses on objects, themselves or others. Masters have been said to be able to control the course of destiny without fail, either through curses, bad luck, or good luck.
This information is by no means exhaustive, but it does give i think a lot more freedom than the previous towers of influence. Also one mage working with one or many others from different Arcanum can use the multiple Arcanum in very complex spells.
